A small train for a five kilometer-long sightseeing tour has recently been launched in the original site of Shoudu Iron and Steel Group, located in Shijingshan District of Western Beijing. The travel route will guide visitors to review the development of iron and steel industry in the capital city.

The newspaper "Beijing Times" reported Tuesday the train would start from the eastern gate of the corporation and advance along the delivery routes of raw materials and molten iron, enabling visitors to observe blast furnace, iron-making and steel-making plants.

The railway within the compound of the corporation approaches 10 kilometers and connects all workshops. However, the sightseeing route halves that length.

The sightseeing train, which had once been used in the transportation of materials, has a flatbed trailer with guardrails at four sides and two davenports in the middle for tourists.

The program is scheduled to become open to the public at the end of 2010 when the corporation brings its production to a complete close at its original site.

The Shoudu Iron and Steel Group has its new steel plant in Caofeidian, a port city 220 kilometers east of the capital, and it will replace the old facilities in Beijing by 2010 to become the country's largest steel production base
